Track cyclist Martin Irvine produced an outstanding peformance to finish fifth in the mens’s Omnium event at the Euro Track Championships in Apeldoorn at the weekend.
The event takes place over two days on the track with six disciplines- the flying lap, individual pursuit,time trial, as well as points, scratch and elimination races.
The Omnium will make its Olympic debut in London 2012. Irvines fifth place boosts his individual ranking points. He now heads to Kazackhstan and Columbia for more world cup races in his bid to secure a place for Ireland at the Omnium in London 2012.
