Key events in advance of Vancouver 2010

OCI Chief Executive, Stephen Martin will attend and will provide feedback at one to one meetings with athletes and officials from Snowsport Ireland, Irish Bobsleigh and Skeleton on his return. The OCI have invested resource in equipment , performance programme costs, and athlete scholarships to assist its goal of having Ireland represented at the 2010 Winter Games.

The seminar will provide an opportunity for OCI to meet VANOC Organising Committee staff, visit key competition venues, the Olympic Village, and in general refine plans for a small anticipated Irish Team.
Ahead of this Jacque Rogge will launch the Olympic Torch at a ceremony in Whistler. Whistler is the site of the sliding events and many of the ski disciplines for 2010, and this will be yet another key milestone on the way to this year’s torch-lighting ceremony in Olympia, Greece.

VANOC have also been involved with International Federations in running a number of test events that will allow them to test some of their planning in a real-life environment. These include an FIBT Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cups (2-7 Feb), ISU Figure Skating Championships (2-8 Feb), FIS Freestyle World Cup (5-7 Feb), FIS Snowboard World Cup ( 12-15 Feb) and FIL Luge World Cup (16-21 Feb).
