LA28 Volunteer Program Applications are now open!

With exactly two years to go until the Opening Ceremony of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, LA28 has officially opened applications for its Games-time volunteer programme, offering sports fans from around the world the opportunity to play a part in the next Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Up to 60,000 volunteers are expected to support the delivery of the Games, working across a variety of roles including sport operations, communications, technology, ceremonies, athlete and spectator services, medical support and more.

For Team Ireland supporters already looking ahead to LA 2028, the programme represents a unique opportunity to experience the Games from behind the scenes while contributing to the athlete and fan experience at one of the world’s biggest sporting events. Volunteers will support competitions and operations across Los Angeles, as well as a number of other Olympic host cities throughout the United States.

LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover highlighted the importance of volunteers to the success of the Games, noting that they will be at the heart of delivering memorable experiences for athletes, spectators and communities.

“In 2028, the world’s attention will be on LA as the world’s best athletes make history, but it’s the crew behind the scenes that help make those moments possible.

“Their impact cannot be overstated — behind every event, every venue and every moment will be the LA28 Volunteer Crew, ready and eager to play a vital role in the delivery of the LA28 Games.”

Former Olympic champion Carl Lewis, who has been named an ambassador for the volunteer programme, encouraged applicants to get involved, describing the opportunity as a chance to be part of sporting history and help welcome the world to the Games.

“I know what it means to compete on the world’s biggest stage, and I know firsthand that the magic of the Olympic Games is not just made by the athletes — it is made by the people who show up to support them.

“Los Angeles has always shown up for me, and now it’s our turn to show up for the world. If you want to be part of something historic, apply today. The role of a lifetime is waiting.”

Volunteer roles will cover eight broad areas:

  • Communications
  • Driving and transport support
  • Guest and spectator experience
  • Medical services
  • Ceremonies
  • Operations
  • Sport
  • Technology

Some positions will require specialist skills, including medical expertise and language translation.

For Irish fans dreaming of being part of the Olympic and Paralympic movement beyond cheering from the stands, the LA28 Volunteer Crew offers a chance to contribute directly to the Games experience as Team Ireland begins its journey towards Los Angeles.
