Lord Coe and London 2012 officials meet OCI delegation

Chairman, Sebastian Coe, Chief Executive Paul Deighton, 2012 Board member Lord Moynahan contributed to the days events.

James McLeod, NOC Relations manager and Debbie Jevans, Head of Sports Operations  introduced  their team of operational directors to delegates before hosting an informal session on topics that ranged from the Sports programme, Olympic villages, Accomodation, Transport, Arrivals and Departures, Ticketing, Accreditation, general logistics and media operations.

During lunch representatives from  “Nations and Regions” lobbied  National Olympic Committee officials about pre Games training opportunities in their regions across the UK.

In the afternoon the group left for a guided orientation drive through the Olympic Park complex, Olympic Village, and other sports stadia.

The Irish delegation consisted of Stephen Martin CEO, Martin Burke, Sports Director, and Sonia O’Sullivan OCI Executive Member.

Stephen Martin said, ” we were very impressed with the progress made on the Olympic Park and Olympic Village site. The Olympic Park is more compact than that of Beijing, it has a Barcelona 1992 village feel to it. The main difference though is the close proximity to the Olympic Park venues, all within easy walking distance from team accomodation.”

Sonia O’Sullivan was impressed by the LOCOG team “our delegation are very appreciative of the opportunity to meet with other larger NOC’s, and be consulted on a number of issues around the planning of the London games, it was an invaluable experience”
