Derek Burnett competed in the men's trap at five Olympic Games - Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 - becoming only the third Irish athlete to compete at five Summer Olympic Games, alongside race walker Rob Heffernan and sailor David Wilkins.
His best Olympic result came at Athens 2004, where he finished joint ninth with 119 out of 125, one place outside the six-man final. He qualified for Tokyo 2020 by shooting 121 at a World Cup event in the UAE in 2019, and finished 26th there with 118 out of 125.
Burnett won World Cup bronze in 1998 and silver in 2007, finished in the top five at the 2002 World Championships, and has won European medals. He is from Kenagh, County Longford.
