Team Ireland competed at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore from 14-26 August 2010, sending a team of 25 athletes across eight sports.
Ireland’s standout performance came from boxer Ryan Burnett, who claimed the country’s first Youth Olympic Games medal by winning gold in the Men’s Light Flyweight (48kg) competition. His achievement helped Ireland finish the Games with one gold medal and marked an important moment in Irish sporting history.
The team also featured several athletes who would go on to enjoy successful senior international careers. Race walker Kate Veale served as Team Ireland’s flagbearer, while athletes such as Mark English, Joe Ward, and Laura Casey gained valuable experience competing on the world stage.
Irish athletes participated in athletics, boxing, hockey, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, tennis, and triathlon, demonstrating the breadth of emerging talent within Irish sport.
