The agreement is the first to be concluded by the OCI as part of it’s intensive preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Pat Hickey commented: ‘We expect this initiative to prove highly beneficial to Ireland’s Olympic challengers as they prepare for London 2012 . It allows us to provide an expanded, athlete-focused service in advance of what will be a ‘home’ Olympics for the Irish team.
At the agreement signing are Octavian Morariu, left, President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee with Patrick Hickey, President of the Olympic Council of Ireland.
Note: Romania finished 17th in the Medal Table at the 2008 Beijing Games, winning 9 medals in 6 sports.
Romania will provide access to their new World Class multi sport training facilities in Bucharest and will work together to develop athlete performance though a range of “transfer of knowledge” coaching, science and medical education programmes in targeted sports. The OCI will be working closely with targeted sports to maximise this arrangement.
