Rheinisch and Craig qualify

Canoeist Eoin Rheinisch has qualified for the Olympics Games for the third time.

Rheinisch, who first competed in the Olympics at Athens 2004, came fourth in the canoeing K-1 slalom final in Beijing 2008, achieving the highest position ever by an Irish competitor in the event.

He finished 12th at the European Canoe Slalom Championships in Augsburg in Germany today to take the first of two Olympic qualification places available to countries who had not already qualified. Croatia took the second place by finishing 17th.

Canoeist Eoin Rheinisch has qualified for the Olympics Games for the third time.

Hannah Craig also qualified for Ireland at the 2012 London Games in the K1 racing kayak event.

Her 25th place at the European Canoe Slalom Championships in Augsberg today was the highest position by a boat not already qualified for the Games, and was enough to seal her place at the August event.

Elise Chabbey of Switzerland took the second place on offer by finishing 32nd.
