About Badminton

At Olympic level, badminton is contested in men's and women's singles and doubles, and mixed doubles, played as a fast, high-intensity racquet sport in which the shuttlecock can travel at extraordinary speeds, making it one of the quickest reaction sports on the Olympic programme.

Ireland's Olympic involvement in badminton has come in the singles events: Sonia McGinn became the first Irish player to qualify at Sydney 2000, Chloe Magee went on to compete in women's singles at three Olympic Games, and Nhat Nguyen and Rachael Darragh represented Ireland in the men's and women's singles at Paris 2024.
