Divers compete from the springboard and the platform, individually and in synchronised pairs, with routines judged on technique, execution and degree of difficulty across a series of dives performed in rapid succession.

Ireland's Olympic diving story began with Eddie Heron at London 1948, but it was 68 years before the country had another Olympic diver: Oliver Dingley, who became the first Irish diver to reach an Olympic final at Rio 2016, finishing eighth in the men's 3m springboard, and went on to compete again at Tokyo 2020.

Paris 2024 saw Ireland's diving team double in size, with Jake Passmore competing in the men's 3m springboard and Ciara McGing becoming Ireland's first female Olympic diver in the women's 10m platform.
