Ireland’s final team line-up was unveiled at the formal launch of Team Ireland at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, today, July 4th.
A team of over 60 in 14 sports will represent Ireland at London 2012 in what will effectively be a ‘home’ Olympic Games.
The team, kitted out in specially designed Asics village , training, competition and parade clothing, will represent the island of Ireland – with over 20% of the team coming from north of the Border.
Pat Hickey, President of the Olympic Council of Ireland wished the Irish team the very best of luck and said that Team Ireland was the best prepared Olympic team ever to leave Ireland in search of Olympic medals.
“The co-operation with the athletes, the Irish Sports Council, the national federations and other stake holders has been the best ever. All is now set for an exciting and fruitful Olympic Games,” he added.
The Team Ireland launch was attended by Michael Ring TD, Minister of State at the Dept. of Transport, Tourism & Sport, Kieran Mulvey, chairman and John Treacy, chief executive, Irish Sports Council, Sonia O’Sullivan, Chef de Mission Team Ireland, Stephen Martin Chief Executive OCI, many Olympians, National Federation representatives, team sponsors and a wide spread of sporting interests.
