Team Ireland welcomes first athletes to the Rio 2016 Olympic Village

The Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) is today delighted to confirm that the first Team Ireland athletes arrived last night at the Rio 2016 Olympic Village.

 

The gymnastics and swimming teams arrived last night and are the first Team Ireland sports to spend a night in the Olympic Village.

 

With 31 buildings and 3,604 apartments, the Village will host more than 17,000 athletes and officials during its peak times.

 

Welcoming the first group of athletes, Team Ireland’s Chef de Mission for Rio 2016 Kevin Kilty said:

“We are delighted to welcome our first athletes to the Olympic Village. This marks the start of their Rio 2016 Olympic Games experience.”
