The Village and sports venues will be used for Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Cross Country Skiing, Luge, Nordic Combined, Skeleton, and Ski Jumping.
The Olympic Council of Ireland’s Stephen Martin met with competition managers of the sports that Ireland are pursuing qualification in: Bobsleigh, Cross Country Skiing and Skeleton and the Whistler Village Manager as Irish athletes and performance staff will reside in Whistler.
The Whistler Olympic Village is located 117 km from the Vancouver Olympic Village. It will house 2,840 residents compared to the Vancouver village of 2,730.
It stands on an elevation of 612 metres and housing tyrpes vary from appartment, town houses and one main residential training camp accomodation building. The village will have its own fitness centre and will be completed in June 2009.
Facilities will include a dining area for max 900 capacity sitting, under and over ground parking lots, a village plaza, Polyclinic, NOC services areas,a general store, post office, ticketing office, and a village bank.
After the Games the units wil be used for both private and social housing for local residents.
Whistler village will open for Olympic Teams on February 4th 2009.
