Ireland’s Ryan Mullen lost out on a gold medal at the World Under-23 Individual Time Trial in Spain to Australia’s Campbell Flakemore by just 0.48 of a second.
Mullen had set the mark in difficult conditions recording a time of 43:50.42 and sat in gold medal position.
It was an anxious wait for the 20-year-old cyclist but Flakemore to his credit made up a 20 second deficit in the final 13 kilometres of the 36 kilometres race, in a time of 43:49.49.
Switzerland’s Stefan Keung came home in 44:09.26 to claim bronze.
