BIOGRAPHY

Annalise Murphy was a silver medalist in the Laser Radial sailing event at Rio 2016, the culmination of years of hard work which included an agonisingly 4th place finish in the same event at the London 2012 Games.

Her career highlights include an eighth-place finish at the 2009 World Championships and sixth in 2011. Following her 2012 Olympic performance, she secured the European Championship title in 2013.

In 2017, Murphy took a hiatus from solo sailing to participate in the Volvo Ocean Race, gaining experience as part of a team. She later teamed up with Katie Tingle in the 49er FX class before returning to the Laser Radial in January 2020, finishing 12th at the World Championships that year.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Murphy competed in her third consecutive Games, finishing 18th.

Sailing runs in her family; her mother, Cathy McAleavy, represented Ireland in the 470 class at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
