BIOGRAPHY
| Eric Horgan competed in the individual and team three-day eventing at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, producing what was described as a superb dressage test on Pontoon that earned 9th place in the dressage phase – one of the highest places ever achieved by an Irish rider in Olympic dressage.
A farmer from Buttevant, Co. Cork, his excellent dressage performance persuaded team management to allow him challenge for an individual medal. A fall at the 15th fence of the cross-country course destroyed his medal prospects, but the combination recovered to return one of the fastest times of the day on a course that was at its slowest at that point due to the deteriorating going. |
