Turin 2006 brought the Games to Italy for the second time, having been held in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956. Alpine skier Kirsten McGarry carried the Irish flag at the Opening Ceremony. Ireland's eight-strong squad competed in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, skeleton and bobsleigh.
David Connolly achieved Ireland's best result of the Games, finishing 20th in the men's skeleton.
