James C. Flynn entered the instrumental and chamber music section of the art competitions at the 1948 London Olympic Games. The art competitions ran alongside the sporting programme from 1912 to 1948, awarding Olympic medals in architecture, music, literature, painting and sculpture for works on sporting themes.
Ireland's 1948 arts entries were coordinated by the Arts Section of the Irish Olympic Council. The music entries were judged by a committee chaired by the composer Arnold Bax, and Ina Boyle's 'Lament for Bion' earned the only Honourable Mention awarded in the music section that year. London 1948 was the last Games at which the art competitions were held.
