Jim Flynn was one of the starting five for Ireland in their opening basketball game against Mexico at the 1948 London Olympic Games, and was among the first Irish players to score in Olympic basketball. He appeared in six games and scored 16 points.
A lieutenant stationed with Curragh Command at Curragh Camp, he was one of twelve servicemen selected for the Irish team, and travelled separately to London to join them. Ireland placed 23rd of 23 nations.
He later retired from the Army at the rank of Colonel and lived in Cork in his later years.
