Leona Maguire became the first Irish woman to win on the LPGA Tour, taking the Drive On Championship in 2022, and added a second title at the Meijer LPGA Classic in 2023.
She has competed at three Olympic Games, finishing 21st at Rio 2016 as the leading amateur, 23rd at Tokyo 2020 and 59th at Paris 2024.
Maguire held the world amateur number one ranking for a record 135 consecutive weeks and won the 2017 Women's British Amateur Championship. On her Solheim Cup debut in 2021 she set a rookie record of 4.5 points from five matches as Europe won, and in the same year shot a 61 in the final round of the Evian Championship, the joint-lowest round in major championship history.
She grew up in Ballyconnell, County Cavan, the daughter of two teachers, and attended Loreto College, Cavan. She focused exclusively on golf from the age of nine and at 12 became the youngest player to compete in a Ladies European Tour event. She studied psychology at Duke University on a golf scholarship, winning ten individual collegiate titles. Her twin sister Lisa was also a professional golfer before retiring in 2019 to manage her career.
