The Olympic Games returned to Paris for the first time in 100 years at Paris 2024, which also marked the centenary of Ireland's first participation as an independent nation. It went on to be Ireland's most successful Games ever.

Kellie Harrington's gold medal defence in the lightweight boxing was the defining moment, making her Ireland's most decorated Olympic boxer. Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy retained their lightweight double sculls gold, while Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch won bronze in the men's double sculls, Ireland's first ever heavyweight Olympic rowing medal.

Daniel Wiffen won gold in the 800m freestyle, becoming Ireland's first Olympic swimming champion, and added a bronze in the 1500m freestyle. Mona McSharry won bronze in the women's 100m breaststroke, Ireland's first Olympic swimming medal in 28 years. Rhys McClenaghan took gold in the gymnastics pommel horse. The women's rugby sevens reached the quarter-finals on their Olympic debut. Rhasidat Adeleke ened up with 2 heart breaking 4th places, firstly in the Womne's 400 M and then with her teammates, Sharlene Mawdsley, Sophie Becker and Phil Healy in the 4 x 400m relay.

Ireland finished with four golds and three bronzes, seven medals in total, the best medal haul in the history of the state.
