Irish downhill skier Conor Lyne, who injured his left shoulder in training at the Rosa Khutor Alpine Training Centre in Sochi on Feb 8th, has been medically cleared to take part in tomorrow’s Giant Slalom event (Feb 19th) at the Winter Olympics.
Conor had to modify his training schedule significantly in the run up to the event but has been medically cleared to participate and he will perform to the best of his ability.
He has been under the care of the Olympic Council of Ireland’s Chief Physiotherapist Aidan Woods and Professor Lars Engebretson, the International Olympic Committee’s Orthopaedic Surgeon and Head of Science & Research.
Conor commented ‘It has been my lifelong ambition to compete at the Olympics. I wish to thank my family, Aidan Woods and my coach in Sochi, Alain Untegassmair, for helping me to realize my dream’.
Stephen Martin, Ireland’s Chef de Mission at Sochi commented ‘Conor has been a great team member. It is unfortunate that he sustained an injury at this time but we wish him every success tomorrow’.
