Girls 4x 100m relay

Ireland qualified second fastest for this afternoons girls 4 x 100m relay  in a time of 47.36

They were placed 6th in the final but we have just heard that there was an technical infringment in one of the changeovers and they have been DQ’d.

Whilst the girls will be dissapointed they showed tremenduos ability to make the final in the fourth fastest time and  ran well in a high quality field.

Netherlands won gold in 45.93, Belgium silver in 46.12 and Russia bronze in 46.58.

Tom Rafter Chef de Mission said ” its been a wonderful experience for all sports here , but particularly for track and field athletes, 6 medals. There have been many outstanding peformances in heats , semis and A and B finals across all sports, and the National Federations will be pleased with the level of performance  and their athletes ability to compete in a European context”

The Irish team arrive back into Dublin Airport (Terminal 1) at 10.20am on Turkish Airlines Flight TK1975
