Tim Goodbody took 15th in Race 8 in the Finn class to place 21st overall in the 2008 Olympics Sailing Regatta. Goodbody is the first of the Irish Sailors to complete their regatta.
Peter O’Leary & Stephen Milne made their Olympic debut today in the Star men’s keelboat class where they placed 6th in Race 1 of their ten race opening series.
Gerald Owens & Phil Lawton in the 470 class moved to 14th place overall when they came 21st place in Race 7.
Ciara Peelo in the Laser Radial class placed 7th in Race 4 to move to 15th overall.

There was diappointment for the Irish quartet as they finished fourth in the semi-final behind the defending Olympic champions Denmark, France and Great Britain and will now contest the ‘B’ final.
“The dream is over, it wasn’t like we can row, and we didn’t do it. They made very heavy going of it, there was no dynamism to their stroke; I haven’t got the reason why that is, I don’t really know.
It wasn’t the start, it was through the body of the course,” said coach John Holland afterwards.

Ireland’s David O’Loughlin missed out on qualifying in the men’s 4000m individual pursuit finsihing in 11th place.
“I don’t know, very disappointed. In training I’ve been doing really well and significantly faster than today consistently. I don’t have the answers right now as to what wrong today,” he said afterwards.
I have to keep positive, this time 2 years ago, I’d never even ridden a track bike. I hadn’t been in a Velodrome so I’m staying positive because the evidence is there that there is potential.”

The Irish boat were 4th in the ‘B’ final and placed 11th overall at the regatta.

Denis Lynch riding Lantinus is tied for 14th place after the first round of qualifying in Hong Kong. Lynch had just the one time penalty. In all there were 13 clear rounds.

Alistair Cragg finished eighth in his heat of the 1500m in a time of 3:44.90 and failed to qualify.

Roisin McGettigan ran a season’s best of 9:28.92 in finishing second in her heat of the 3000m steeplechase to qualify for the final.
Fionnuala Britton ran a season’s best time of 9:43.57 but failed to make the final.

John Joe Nevin v Badar Uugan Enkhbat (Mongolia)
Cavan’s John Joe Nevin bowed out of the Olympics as he lost 9-2 on points to Badar-Uugan Enkhbat from Mongolia at bantamweight.
Enkhbat, a silver medallist at this year’s World Championships in Chicago, is ranked as number two in the world and he showed all his class as he picked off Nevin at will.
“All I wanted to do was perform, I let him know I was there as well, he’s a silver medallist at the worlds and all I wanted to do was perform. Coming up against that type of opponent is hard. I am only 19 and I am up against top class opponents, I tried my best,” Nevin, who will now focus on London in four years time, said afterwards. “Yeah like 2012 is my games, I shouldn’t be out here even, I’m four years ahead of myself, I’m here getting all the experience that I need now for the 2012 games.”
