A nasty illness has been circulating around the regatta all week and Germany’s lightweight men’s four had to withdraw from yesterday’s semi-final after three crew-members were affected.

Italy won the race clocking a time of 6:3.12, China finished second in a time of 6:04.48, while Australia claimed third in 6:05.26.

The Irish heavyweight coxless four have rounded off their Olympics with a fourth place finish in the ‘B’ final at the Shunyi Rowing-Canoeing Park.

That means the Harald Jahrling-coached foursome, all first-time Olympians, have finished tenth overall in a very competitive field.
