BIOGRAPHY

Danny Taylor rowed in the men's eight at the 1948 London Olympic Games as part of the composite Irish crew that competed at Henley-on-Thames as the only Irish team at those Games to be officially designated 'Ireland' in the programme. A member of Queen's University Boat Club in Belfast, Taylor was one of three non-UCD rowers selected to augment the core UCD crew. His inclusion required careful contingency planning by team officials who alternated him with reserve Wally Stevens in training to deflect attention, as Olympic rules only permitted crew changes for injury or illness. In the event there were no objections and the all-Ireland crew competed together. They were beaten by Canada and Portugal in the opening heat and by Norway in the repechage.
