Kevin Martin was the only boxer to represent Ireland at two Olympic Games without winning an Irish senior title. Despite this unusual distinction, he fully justified his selections - winning his opening bout at the 1948 London Games against Moos Linneman of the Netherlands with a commanding display of straight lefts, short arm jabs and right crosses, before losing to Ernesto Formenti of Italy, who went on to win the gold medal. He went on to compete at the 1952 Helsinki Games, where he defeated Belgian Marcel Van De Keere in a significant first-round win before losing to Romanian Gheorghe Fiat, who won the bronze medal.
