Sochi 2014 brought the Winter Games to the Black Sea coast of Russia for the first time, with the resort city delivering a spectacular mountain backdrop across alpine, nordic and sliding venues.
Five Irish athletes competed across four sports. Conor Lyne carried the Irish flag at the Opening Ceremony, with Seamus O'Connor given the honour at the Closing Ceremony. O'Connor, just sixteen years old, was the youngest snowboard competitor at the Games, competing in the halfpipe and slopestyle events and finishing 15th and 17th respectively.
Florence Bell competed in alpine skiing alongside Lyne, Jan Rossiter represented Ireland in cross-country skiing, and Sean Greenwood competed in skeleton.
