TWO-TIME OLYMPIAN PHIL HEALY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM ATHLETICS

The Bandon AC athlete leaves the sport as one of the defining figures in the modern era of Irish sprinting, having played a central role in raising standards, breaking records, and helping Ireland’s relay squads become a force on the global stage.

Across a remarkable career, having represented Ireland for the last 14 consecutive years, Healy established herself as one of the leading sprinters of her generation, competing with distinction on the world and European stage across the 100m, 200m and 400m, while also winning 17 national senior titles and becoming one of the most successful athletes in Irish sprinting history.

ALLIANZ IRELAND DEEPENS PARTNERSHIP WITH RHASIDAT ADELEKE AS LOGO DEBUTS ON RACE KIT

Team Ireland’s title sponsor Allianz Ireland has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with Irish Olympic sprinter and national record holder Rhasidat Adeleke. In a milestone moment for the partnership, the Allianz logo will officially appear on Adeleke’s competition kit for the first time, marking a new chapter in a relationship that has grown alongside one of the most storied careers in Irish athletics.

IOC TO SET UP “FIT FOR THE FUTURE OLYMPIAN GRANT” TO SUPPORT ALL OLYMPIANS WITH USD 10,000

For the first time in history, every athlete at the Olympic Games will be eligible for a new USD 10,000 “Fit for the Future Olympian Grant”. The grant has been set up to support the sporting career or the career transition of Olympians. A fund of USD 140 million per Olympiad has been set aside, as announced today by the Chair of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission (AC), Pau Gasol, during the 146th IOC Session in Lausanne, Switzerland. The first athletes to benefit from this initiative will be the Olympians who competed at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

A TRIBUTE TO OLYMPIAN CIARÁN Ó LIONÁIRD

The Olympic Federation of Ireland is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Olympian Ciarán Ó Lionáird, who has died at the age of 38. To become an Olympian is a rare and extraordinary achievement, the result of years of dedication, sacrifice and talent, and Ciarán reached that pinnacle when he represented Ireland in the 1500 metres at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

RIP OLYMPIAN GERRY O’REILLY

The Olympic Federation of Ireland is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Olympian Gerry O’Reilly, who has died at the age of 61. Gerry was not only an exceptional athlete who represented Ireland in the 1500 metres at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games, he was also a long standing and generous supporter of Irish Olympic sport. In recent years he was a valued presence around the annual Team Ireland Golf Day, always lending his support to the Make A Difference Fund for athletes and showing a genuine commitment to helping the next generation.
