Olympic run a big success

The youngsters took part in a special Fun Run along a sunny but blustery Howth Pier, almost directly opposite the new headquarters of the Olympic Council of Ireland.

Each participant received a certificate, a McDonalds voucher and a specially designed, snazzy Asics tee-shirt.

The Run was part of a world partnership between the IOC and the McDonalds restaurant chain which gave dozens of national Olympic committees the opportunity to spread the Olympic message to young people worldwide.

Over one million participants were expected to take part in Olympic Runs in over 160 countries this year.

The Olympic Council of Ireland would like to thank the Principal and teachers of Scoil Mhuire, an Garda Siochana and, of course, the athletes for ensuring the success of the 2006 Olympic Day Run.
