Opening Ceremony kicks off the EYOF

Short speeches by EOC President Pat Hickey and IOC President Dr. Jacques Rogge preceeded an exciting floor show which left everyone buzzing with anticipation for the coming competition.

There was huge disappointment for Niamh Clohessy just hours before the start of the EYOF. Niamh, who had been selected to carry the Irish flag, had a training accident and injured her ankle. Medical advise was that she should rest her ankle and forego the honour of leading Irish Team into the Opening Ceremony. Her team mate Jordain McGifford stepped in to replace Niamh and carried the flag with great pride.
