Pat Hickey new president of EOC

He will take up office in July and becomes the leading Irish figure in the administration of world sport.

The outgoing candidate, Mario Pescante of Italy, announced his intention to step down earlier this month because of increasing commitments in Italian politics.

Mr. Hickey, who is currently Secretary General of the EOC, will formally take up office on July 29th.

Speaking to the Irish media, he said “I’m delighted and honoured to be elected to this prestigious position. Of course it’s a great challenge as well and I was delighted with the support I got which allowed me to go forward for the position unchallenged”.
