Shannon improves to finish 25th overall

Shannon moved up two places from yesterdays two runs and improved his qualifying ranking by five places. After a nervous start in heat one he began to relax and his performances in heat two and three improved his time and positioning.

Only the top 20 after three runs complete a fourth and final run.

The Gold medal went to Canadian Jon Montgomery, holding off Latvia’s Martin Durkus and Russia’s Alexander Trakyakov who won silver and bronze.

Shannon said afterwards, “I felt very relaxed despite the electric atmosphere. I made my best ever start and built on that.

This Olympics for me has been a massive learning experience. Team Ireland gave me superb support”

OCI Chief Executive Stephen Martin said “Pat should be proud of his performance in Whistler. He has prepared well, and has improved in confidence with each round , i’m delighted the way Irish Bobsleigh and the OCI have supported him in his campaign. For Pat to be able to say he’s top 25 in the World in his sport and now an Olympian, that sounds good”
