The Olympic Council of Ireland held two important seminars this week for team leaders, head coaches and athletes.
Rio 2016 updates were provided by the OCI performance administration/science and medical team at Carton House.
40 delegates attended the team leaders/head coaches session with key content as follows:
- Rio 2016 updates (Kevin Kilty (Team Ireland Chef de Mission), Stephen Martin (Deputy Chef), Martin Burke (Games Services ), Dr. Rod McLoughlin, Dr. Giles Warrington, Aidan Woods (Science and Medical)
- Sharing best practice: “critical factors” enabling
- “European medal success and Olympic Qualification” Craig Fulton/ Men’s Hockey
- “European Championship Gold” Andy McKenzie/ Modern Pentathlon
- “Leadership role in Ryder Cup Success” Paul McGinley/ Golf
- Team Building Challenge (led by GUI Coaches)
The following day 55 athletes from 9 sports attended the Sports Campus Conference Centre and benefited from the OCI updates, a social media workshop led by Team Ireland sponsors Electric Ireland, and a tour of the new IIS facilities by Phil Moore.
