Istanbul 2027 – World Class Sport on the European Stage

The European Games will return in 2027, with Istanbul hosting the fourth edition of Europe’s premier multi-sport event from 16 to 27 June, bringing together athletes from across the continent to compete at the highest level.

As a key moment on the pathway to the Olympic Games, many events will offer qualification opportunities for Los Angeles 2028, reinforcing the Games’ importance within the high-performance cycle. Set against one of the world’s most dynamic cities, Istanbul provides a unique cultural backdrop, bridging Europe and Asia while showcasing the strength and diversity of European sport.

For Team Ireland, the European Games represent an opportunity for athletes to compete at a continental level, target Olympic qualification and gain critical experience on the pathway to LA28

ISTANBUL 2027 SELECTION POLICIES

The Olympic Federation of Ireland (OFI), as Ireland’s recognised National Olympic Committee, is responsible for the final selection of all athletes to Team Ireland for the European Games Istanbul 2027.

The policies below set out clearly how that process works from nomination by each National Federation through to final selection by the OFI. All sport-specific policies should be read alongside the official European Olympic Committees and International Federation qualification principles and eligibility criteria for each sport, which take precedence. These policies will be updated in line with any changes to the official Istanbul 2027 qualification process as published by the relevant governing bodies.
