BIOGRAPHY
Lauren Cadden represented Ireland in the women’s 4×400 metres relay at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, running in the heats as Ireland qualified for the final. The team went on to finish fourth in the final, missing bronze by 0.18 seconds in a national record of 3:19.90, though Cadden did not run that leg.
She grew up in Skreen and played Gaelic football alongside athletics before committing fully to sprinting in 2020. She attended Ursuline College Sligo and studied Health Science and Physical Activity at ATU Sligo on a sports scholarship, graduating in 2022. A member of Sligo Athletics Club, she won her first senior national title in the women’s 200m in 2022 before transitioning to the 400m. Her breakthrough in the relay programme came in 2024: she ran her first ever relay leg at the World Athletics Relays in Nassau in May, helping Ireland qualify for the Paris Olympics, and then ran in the heats of the European Championships in Rome where Ireland won silver in the women’s 4x400m final.
