BIOGRAPHY
Nadia Power represented Ireland in the 800 metres at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, finishing 7th in her heat.
Power grew up in Templeogue and took up athletics at eight years old, having won a race at her primary school sports day. She attended St Mac Dara’s Community College and trained with Templeogue AC before moving to Dublin City Harriers. As a child she also played camogie with St Jude’s GAA club, winning Dublin under-14 and under-16 championship medals.
She initially competed in the 1,500 metres before her coach Enda Fitzpatrick persuaded her to switch to the 800 metres, and her progress was immediate. She won bronze at the European Under-23 Championships in Sweden in 2019. She qualified for Tokyo 2020 via the world rankings after a standout indoor season in which she broke the Irish indoor 800m record twice, running 2:00.98 in Toruń in February 2021 – at the time one of the fastest indoor 800m times in the world that year.
