Liam Jegou finished seventh in the C1 canoe slalom at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the best result by an Irish C1 canoeist in Olympic history.
In the Paris final he was in medal contention before touching the final gate with under two seconds of the course remaining, incurring a two-second penalty. He also competed in the inaugural Olympic kayak cross event at those Games, finishing 22nd.
He made his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, finishing 15th in the C1, and became the third Irish man to race C1 at an Olympic Games.
Jegou's mother is Irish and his father a Breton canoe instructor. The family lived in Switzerland and then Ballyvaughan, County Clare before moving to Huningue in Alsace when he was seven. He first paddled at the age of four on Galway Bay.
