Stephen Scullion ran 2:09:49 at the 2020 London Marathon, taking two minutes off his personal best and finishing 34 seconds outside John Treacy's Irish record of 2:09:15, set in Boston in 1988.
He achieved the Olympic qualification standard by finishing fifth at the Houston Marathon, and competed in the marathon at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where he did not finish. The race was run in Sapporo in severe heat, and 30 runners did not finish, close to a third of the field.
