Owen Tuohy competed in the individual and team foil at the 1948 London Olympic Games as a product of the coaching of Roger Cronier, the French coach who had introduced fencing to Blackrock College and to the Irish Army at the Curragh. He lost all seven of his individual foil bouts at the Palace of Engineering at Wembley. Ireland lost to France 16-0 and Egypt 9-0 in the team foil.
