Olympic debrief process underway

The debrief agenda will focus on all aspects of the operational planning and management of the Olympic Games experience in Beijing, Hong Kong and Qingdao.

The Olympic Council have already been capturing feedback from athlete, team manager and support staff, and OCI HQ staff  through the use of confidential and electronic questionaires. These will be suplemented by specific meetings with National Federation Team Management, OCI medical, and HQ staff.

OCI Chief Executive Stephen Martin said , “Whilst we believe that we did a very professional job and the overall team spirit was excelllent, its important to capture what went well and why, address areas for improvement and note key recommendations for the next Summer Olympic cycle. This process started during the Games as team members concluded competition”

He continued “as agreed and in order to avoid any duplication colleagues at the Irish Sports Council will focus on continuing with their quarterly monitoring and evaluation exercise of their investment in high performance sport .

The ISC are accountable for Government investment, and a return in performance,of over 30million euro in the current Olympic cycle. To assist the ISC monitoring and evaluation process, the Irish Institute of Sport (IIS) have offered to assist sports with their internal sports debrief process.

We look forward to working with our sports and sports agencies to ensure our athletes see a step change in the high performance funding and management over the next 4 year cycle, in order to achieve a top 40 position in the medal table and achieve a realistic target of five overall medals”
