Louise Shanahan

Louise Shanahan won the European Youth Championship over 800 metres in 2013 and completed a PhD in quantum physics, having taken a BSc in physics at University College Cork.

She ran the 800 metres at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, finishing seventh in her heat in 2:03.57.

Shanahan grew up in Cork and joined Leevale AC at nine, after her father Ray, a former Irish national 1,500 metres champion, suggested she try athletics. She returned to full training after a bone fracture in her foot in 2015.
