Charles Reidy was selected in the hammer throw for the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games, where he did not start the event. He was 40 years of age at the time of the Games.

Helsinki was a strong Games for Ireland in the ring, where John McNally took silver in the bantamweight division to claim the country's first Olympic boxing medal.
