Albert Thompson competed in the men’s skeet shooting at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, finishing 31st of 46 competitors with a personal best score of 187 – a result described as not consistent enough for a higher placing.

Thompson was one of Ireland’s most experienced international shooters. He went on to compete at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics in the mixed skeet category, where he finished 41st with a 92 per cent success rate in his second Olympic Games.
