BIOGRAPHY

Bertie Kerr was a member of the Irish football team at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games - the first appearance of any Irish team as an independent nation in Olympic competition - and played in both matches: a 1-0 victory over Bulgaria on 28 May at Stade de Colombes and a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands (lost 2-1 in extra time) on 2 June at Stade de Paris. A Bohemians player, Kerr was one of five Bohemians players in the original starting XI against Bulgaria, part of a team selected with an average age of twenty-seven. The Irish team's historic campaign - the first Olympic football tournament in which an Irish side participated - ended at the quarter-final stage.
