BIOGRAPHY

Paddy Duncan made history at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games by scoring the first goal ever scored by an Irish team at the Olympic Games, netting the only goal in Ireland's 1-0 victory over Bulgaria on 28 May 1924 at Stade de Colombes - twenty minutes from the end of the match. A St James's Gate FC player, Duncan's goal was the historic breakthrough that launched Ireland's Olympic football career and gave the Irish team a place in the quarter-finals, where they faced the Netherlands. He also played in the quarter-final, which ended 2-1 after extra time.
