Con O'Callaghan competed in the decathlon at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games, having won the Olympic decathlon trial in May 1928 with a score of 6012 points - a score that was roughly 1000 points short of what was needed to pose a meaningful challenge at Olympic level.
Con was a brother to the two time gold medallist Dr Pat O'Callaghan. He competed in Amsterdam alongside his brother, and the two were celebrated together on their return, in their home town of Kanturk where thousands turned out and every house was decorated with tricolours.
In Amsterdam his performance was encouraging and his best events were the 110m hurdles and the 100m.
