Aileen Reid (nee Morrison)

BIOGRAPHY
Aileen Morrison represented Ireland in the women’s triathlon at two Olympic Games – London 2012 and Rio 2016.
Born in Derry, she trained as a physical education teacher before turning professional and is a member of North West Triathlon Club. A former Northern Ireland cross country champion who also won a medal at the World University Cross Country Championships with Team Ireland, she came to triathlon building on strong swimming and running foundations. She was in outstanding form heading into London 2012, having won silver at the ITU World Triathlon Series in Madrid – the best result ever recorded by an Irish triathlete – but her Olympic campaign was derailed when she crashed on a greasy corner during the first lap of the bike course, suffering a deep gash to her elbow, and finished 43rd.
She bounced back strongly, finishing the 2013 season ranked 8th in the world and winning silver at the ITU World Triathlon Series Grand Final in London. She married in New Zealand in October 2012 and subsequently competed as Aileen Reid.
