BIOGRAPHY
Jack Gower represented Ireland in the alpine skiing events at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, achieving his best result – and Ireland’s best ever result in Alpine skiing at a Winter Olympics – with 12th place in the men’s combined event. He also finished 31st in the downhill and 25th in the giant slalom.
Gower qualified to represent Ireland through his grandmother, who grew up in Skibbereen, Co. Cork, having been born in Dublin, and switched from Great Britain to Ireland in January 2022. He had previously won the World Junior title in giant slalom at the age of 16 while representing Great Britain, and competed for GB at the 2015 World Championships. A specialist in speed disciplines, he has been ranked as high as 38th in the world in Super-G and won the US Nationals and the 2017 South American Cup. He trained with the Swiss national team’s second tier squad ahead of the Beijing Games.
His father Richard is a Welsh rally driver and the family has strong ties to Skibbereen. His father’s cousin is the legendary English cricketer and commentator David Gower.
