BIOGRAPHY

While on scholarship at Duke University in America Leona, who is now based in Orlando, spent 135 weeks at number one in the world amateur rankings. Two professional wins and seventh place on the Symetra Tour in 2019 earned her first card on the LPGA Tour in 2020. In her first full season she had four top tens, and in 2022 was the first Irish woman to win on the LGPA Tour (the Drive On Championship). She was also runner-up to Lydia Ko in the end-of-season CME Tour Championship, eighth at the US Open, and fourth at the Women’s Open in Scotland rising to #11 in the world that year. A second LPGA title (Meijer Classic) moved her to world #10 in 2023 when she was also the stand out star of the Solheim Cup.

This season she missed her first cut in a Major in four years at the Chevron Championship, but was tied 24th at the PGA in June and, in early July, won her first title on the European tour (LET) in Hemel Hemstead. This is her third Olympic Games; she finished tied 21st in Rio 2016, and tied 23rd in Tokyo with a score of 279 (71-67-70-71).
